Oi. Wasn't my vow at the start of this thing, to not go for weeks without posting?
I've found my head immersed in a book for often lately. I've always been an avid reader, however lately, it's been a very welcomed escape from the gruesome torture chambers of school and other things. I've been looking more into becoming a lawyer, for this is the best option I can see for myself. My research has lead me to say what I've been saying a lot as of late: disheartening. It would turn out that the school I want to go to requires better grades then expected. I'm a B, B- student, which is awful considering I used to be an A, A+ student. Further more, being accepted into law school requires even better grades. I honestly don't know whether I have it in my to get my grades up high enough to compete for colleges... now I'm just not sure.
This confusion is another example of other things I need to escape from via book travel.
My quest for a job is slower than the progress being made on capping the oil spill on the gulf of Mexico. After asking Mike to get me a job application at Regal Cinemas, he informed me that I must personally ask the manager for one. This is a problem, for I have not been in the mall for months, and have made no plans to be there.
Today Biology, we went on a small expedition to the outdoor classroom for our ecology unit. Mr. Johnson sent us on a hunt for Heterotrophs (living beings with brains and such)(NOT plants essentially). Despite being assigned groups, I joined the one with my best friend Dormy, Nutter, Weenie and Jacob. After being given groups and small boxes to put out animals in, we were sent off into the world. While Jacob actually searched for signs of life in plausible areas, Dormy, Nutter, Weenie and I bounded off happily into the woods. We stumble out onto the road to see a woman walking down the dirt road.
Me: "Are women Heterotrophs?"
Dormy: "I guess so"
Weenie: "Should we ask her to-"
Me: "HEY HETEROTROPH!"
Nutter: "Excuse me, can you help us out?"
Lewis: "We need to find you"
Alex: "We're looking for heterotrophs"
Dormy: "How are were going to prove we found her?"
Lewis: "Get in the box."
Alex: "No, Sign my hand. Lewis take a picture."
Carol: "Alrighty"
Lewis: "Smile!"
Afterwards, we run off back to Mr. Johnson triumphantly proclaiming out discovered woman. Before finding another animal in the woods, we find yet another woman walking along the path that I named Meralda. Repeat conversation. Those were the ONLY Heterotrophs found by our group by the end of the search. After discovering Meralda, we started climbing trees. We lost.
Oh, and I have another new segment, in which I tell you about the book I just read!
LITERARY ADVENTURES (IN SPACE)
Today's book: Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
This has been my favorite movie ever since I was four. I laughed happily as other cringed at the bloodthirsty velociraptors. I would have to pronounce the title as; "Grass Pork"* due to my lack of annunciation skills. With my amazing love for this film, it's atrocious that I'd never read the book.
As I'm sure you all know, this book is about a small group of people who are invited to an island full of genetically engineered dinosaurs. This group of people are asked to review the part to make sure it's safe before customers are ready to arrive to see the dinosaurs.
I found Crichton's writing style to be uniquely interesting. There was a surprising lack of detail in some location, while there would be pages on a whole other subject, like technical aspects. For example, I can recall certain points at which the characters would be walking through the woods talking about anything but dinosaurs, and all of a sudden, it reads: "The rex was right there" No forewarning. No "Grant heard a strange noise past the foliage," or "Grant smelled a peculiar smell that sat on the back of his tongue and tasted of mayonnaise that had been left out for 6 and three sevenths of an hour."
However, at other points in the book, you would get a page and a half explanation on the Chaos theory and the Malcom effect. It was actually a bit off putting, but didn't take away from the experience or quality of the novel.
[WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILERS] (Nothing specific)
One of the low points in the novel was when (in trying to foreshadow another book) after a perfectly satisfying conclusion had been met, the main characters continued on another mini-adventure that was cut short one chapter in. It was unneeded.
[SPOILER FINISHED]
I give this book a 9/10

1 Ramblings:
Oh man I had Johnson for Bio in ninth grade. I wish we got to look for Heterotrophs.
