Ladybugs all dressed in red
Strolling through the flowerbed.
If I were tiny just like you
I'd creep among the flowers too!
So on Tuesday, I sat down in first block, Science Research. I stare at my backpack for a moment, to discover a little red dot of a ladybug holding on to my backpack for dear life. (I would find out later in the day that he does not enjoy being on moving objects at all.) Anyway, after getting him onto my finger, and showing him to Maria, I decide that his name was Hermes, and that he was from my house, which is a ladybug refuge during the winter. I made it my duty to get him back home to his family. I folded the walls of a useless schedule in my backpack upwards in a feeble attempt to contain Hermes. Not so much to my surprise, I was soon reminded that Ladybugs can walk up walls. Hermes had no idea I was rescuing him, and would constantly try to escape, and I would have to make sure he didn't. For three blocks and a lunch, I kept Hermes with me. He was all over the place in SciRe, slept through most of English and lunch, but was wild again in Spanish. During this time, I was pretty involved in the group work we were doing, and my Hermes checks were dwindling to a very low frequency. To my dismay, I turned to look for him towards the end of the block, and Hermes was gone.
I was heart broken. I still am sort of. I realize he was just a Ladybug, but I made a promise to him,and broke it. I looked all over for him, but the problem was that he could have crawled into ANY backpack or stuck himself under ANY desk. And he was just to small to stand out...
I never found Hermes. And to make matters worse, and to basically sucker punch me in the guilt, I sat down in first block, Global History today, and opened my backpack to find another ladybug on my math book. I checked to make sure, and it wasn't my Hermes. I thought about taking him home, but I just couldn't bring myself to make that kind of a promise again. I named him Prometheus, and he stayed with me throughout Global. And towards the end, he got on my notesheet, and I swear, he looked at me. And he turned around, and left. I miss them both. Mostly Hermes, because we spent more time together. In addition to a poem I'm working on now, inspired by my last post, I am now starting "Ode to a ladybug." Hopefully they'll be done soon. Here's to you, Hermes and Prometheus!

4 Ramblings:
that is adorable.
I love the line about Prometheus "looking at you"
This made me crack up...
I think the ladybugs are trying to kill you. Run.
:')
What!? They're not trying to kill me! This was a heartwarming story, Isaac. HAVE A WARM HEART, YOU ESKIMO!
