To be or not to be

The Person In The Mirror

Mirrors are funny things. I'll look at myself in a mirror, but what am I actually seeing? It's not really "me." If I had to decide what really embodied "me" it wouldn't be my face or any superficial features. It would be things about my character. Things that you can't see.

Normally, people think of mirrors as providing an intimate experience with yourself. You can stand in front of yourself, and give yourself the illusion of actually talking to someone, when in reality it's exactly the opposite. It draws you out of your own head. Instead of actually being able to talk to yourself, you're talking to some random identical person who happens to be in your house.

The person in the mirror won't judge you or dismiss you. But the person won't help you either. No advice, no helpful comments. You needed to talk to yourself, but instead you're talking to positively no one. In the end, when the conversation is over, all you've done is escaped whatever problems may have needed talking about in the first place. Even if you keep up the facade that the person in the mirror is you, it won't help anything. You've said all that needed saying, but nobody was listening! You weren't listening!

This was just something I was thinking about today. A bit random. Hoping to get back on the Blogo-horse, but no promises. And no more apologies. It's not really for anyone but myself.
